TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Association for Elections and Democracy or Perludem, highlighted the high number of re-voting (PSU) ordered by the Constitutional Court in the 2024 Pilkada.

Perludem researcher Haykal said, when compared to the number of PSUs in the previous elections, the number of PSUs in the 2024 elections tends to increase by around 25 percent.

“This is one indication that there have been problems in the process of organizing the elections,” Haykal said in a teleconference, Thursday, February 27, 2025.

He detailed, in the 2021 Pilkada, there were 16 regions ordered by the Court to hold PSUs, with 2 of them ordered to hold PSUs in all polling stations.

However, he continued, in the 2024 Pilkada, there were 24 regions ordered by the Court to hold PSUs, with 14 regions ordered to hold PSUs at all polling stations.

“This is an important note for evaluating the implementation of elections,” said Haykal.

Syahdan, he said, although in number, the number of regions ordered to hold PSUs still tends to be small compared to the total number of regions holding Pilkada.

However, such comparisons cannot be legitimized to conclude that the implementation of the 2024 elections has gone well.

Haykal explained, in the process of implementing the elections, comparisons cannot be made that refer only to numbers alone. However, also regarding the significant increase in the number of PSUs.

“When the number of PSUs increases, this is something that cannot be justified,” said Haykal.

Meanwhile, the Court has completed reading the entire trial of the 2024 Pilkada dispute case from a total of 310 applications submitted by each candidate pair’s legal team.
