The phenomenon of Pilkada with a single candidate is increasingly massive in 2024. The increase in the number of regions that will fight empty boxes has almost doubled compared to 2020 to 41 regions. This certainly has a negative impact on the future of Indonesian democracy. Elections with empty boxes will lack competition and transparency in their implementation. Supervision from the community is the key to ensuring that the elections are carried out honestly and fairly even though only one candidate pair participates.
